Popular in the late 19th and early 20th century, the Vapo-Cresolene device was marketed as a remedy for respiratory ailments including asthma, bronchitis, and whooping cough.This ornate example features:
• Decorative cast metal frame with scrollwork detailing • Upper medicated reservoir cup (with ventilation holes) • Red glass oil lamp base (replacement – not original to the piece)The oil lamp heats the upper cup, allowing medicated Cresolene solution (not included) to vaporize into the air.
